Dr. Michael Martinez Scott WINS by 10,000 votes! Riverside Co. Office of Education Area 1
My Name is Michael Scott, not of The Office fame, but Dr. Scott a Retired Superintendent and University Professor
Experience / Qualifications
Dr. Scott worked as a nurse at Laterman State Hospital with institutionalized, developmentally disabled residents. This ignited his love for impacting children’s lives. After finishing at Azusa Pacific University, his first classroom was 3rd grade in East Los Angeles, then 5 years as a Corona-Norco USD middle school Opportunity Teacher (students placed for behavior, grade intervention, or drug use). Altogether, he has taught 30 years in grades 1-8; 17 of those years were in inner-city San Bernardino City USD.
Striving to improve results, he created One to One Classrooms™. Dr. Bloom’s research concluded that tutoring is the most effective form of teaching. Dr. Scott applied this principle to his inner-city classrooms with astounding results. He succeeded in improving state test scores 235% for San Bernardino’s fourth graders who entered with 22% at grade level then improved to 52% proficient or advanced. Dr. Scott’s book, One-to-One Classrooms Inspire Creative Problem-Solvers was translated into Chinese.
Subsequently, for 8 years, he traveled the world doing professional development on student engagement, critical thinking skills, and multiple intelligences. In China, he was honored as “Most Influential Foreign Speaker of the Year” at Beijing Normal University. Realizing China’s challenges, he founded Irvine International Academy (IIA) a Mandarin/English immersion charter school serving as its Executive Director and Superintendent. By its third year, IIA was recognized as a California Distinguished School (CDS) and top in Orange County.
Using his PhD in School Administration, Dr. Scott created Irvine International’s human resources, student and employee handbooks, business budget, operations, pupil services, special education, and state testing. Additionally, he guided English and Mandarin curriculum modification.
At the university level, Dr. Scott taught for the School of Christian Ministries at California Baptist University and National University recruited him for computer courses for the School of Education.
Solutions Computers, Dr. Scott’s business, created the Master’s Series accounting software for nonprofits (LedgerMaster, PayableMaster, PayrollMaster, and ReceivableMaster). Moody Press of Chicago marketed them nationwide.
